♥ I’ve Always Known You…

The Meeting…
He worked as a paramedic on Ocracoke. The EMS station was right behind the Ocracoke health center where she worked as receptionist. During a 4th of July fireworks explosion on Ocracoke, they worked together; Jamie as PIO and Brian as paramedic to victims and even had press conference together but they didn’t know each other well. They felt connected from that event on, started talking and texting and finding out everything about each others past, present, and looked into their future.

Proposal…
It was a regular workday with the added stress of a community Christmas concert that night that she was playing several accompaniment pieces for. Her music wasn’t together, she needed to practice, and her red shirt was not clean. He picked her up at noon for her lunch hour. He said, “I have a surprise for you.” Oh, okay, she thought, as they skipped the turn that would lead to her house, she thought they were going for a ride around the island. Or he has lunch ready at his house. They pull up at the Ocracoke Lighthouse, he said “I talked to your boss, she said you could have some more time at lunch since you have so much to do. I’ve arranged to have the lighthouse opened so we can climb up and check it out.” She thought that was sweet, she always wanted to go up there but never had the chance. They reached the top and look at the beauty of the ocean, as she turned around, he had slipped his hand out of his pocket and went down to his knee, she realized that that was the moment that girls dream of, not the dress or the cake or the flowers. He asked, “Will you be my wife? Will you marry me?” This is the sincerest moment of my life, she said “Yes” is the answer.

♥ An Egyptian/Lebanese Celebration

The Meeting…
She though he was so charming, handsome, and outgoing the moment they met…She was meeting some friends for dinner, he had just moved to Raleigh from California and wanted to meet new people. His cousin was one of her friends at dinner, he showed up late for dinner and sat across the table. They started talking across everyone, eventually ending up next to each other by the end of the night. They talked all night and went out for drinks afterwards. The two of them ended up at a local diner and had french fries and coffee until 4 am. They hung out almost everyday since that night.
Proposal…
They got engaged after 6 months of being together. His sister lives in Lebanon and he didn’t want to propose until his whole family was in town. It was Halloween and they had went out the night before for a costume party and decided they weren’t going to go out for Halloween on the 31st. Instead they had a family dinner with their families at his parents house. He asked her to come over a little early so he could help set up before her parents came over. She drove into his driveway and walked to the front door. She saw a red rose on the door with a note that said “Record this.” There was a camera sitting next to the door with another note saying “meet me in the bedroom.” She turned on the camera and walked into the bedroom and saw a rose laying on his bed with a note saying meet me in the bathroom. She walked to the bathroom and found another rose with a note leading her to another location. Each time she arrived in a different room and collected roses. The 10th rose led her outside to the stairs leading to the lake in his backyard. The 11th rose had a note which read; I want to spend the rest of my life with you, will you marry me! And then he walked around the corner with the 12th rose and got on his knees and proposed. She caught the whole thing on camera!

Valeisha Butterfield & Dahntay Jones

Dahntay Jones wasn’t planning on proposing to Valeisha Butterfield for another two months. The Indiana Pacers forward intended to pop the question on Christmas Day, but on October 10, 2010, the world was abuzz about the day’s numerological significance: 10/10/10. As it only rolls around every thousand years, many couples chose to marry on this rare, auspicious date.

Unfortunately, it was almost midnight when Jones realized this; he also realized that he couldn’t wait any longer to ask for Butterfield’s hand. Jones already had the custom engagement ring, so the next day he reserved the second floor of their favorite restaurant in Indianapolis and invited his love to dinner.

Butterfield– cofounder of WEEN (Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network)– remembers Jones talking at dinner about the significance of the day before; he was visibly nervous. “He walked to my side of the table, pulled out his camera phone, took my picture, then sat back down,” Butterfield says.

“The first time I messed up,” Jones says, laughing.

The second time he came around to her side of the table, Jones got down on one knee, and she said yes.

Nine months later, the couple tied the knot at the historic Duke University Chapel in Durham, N.C. Jones, 30, is a Duke graduate; Butterfield, 33, grew up in Wilson, N.C. (her parents are Congressman G.K. Butterfield and N.C. State Rep. Jean Farmer Butterfield.) A self-confessed “control freak,” Butterfield wisely enlisted wedding planner and childhood friend Kimberly Davis of Culture Capital Management Group in Kernersville, N.C., and Areaka McFadden of Glamour & Glo Event Planning and Design in Washington, D.C., to help coordinate the long-distance nuptials.

The brief afternoon ceremony was officiated by Dr. Benjamin Chavis. Afterward, guests made their way to the “Heaven on Earth”-themed reception, where centerpieces made of white and ivory roses, hydrangeas, lilies, and calla lilies (meant to mimic cumulus clouds) decorated the tables. Guests sipped signature cocktails named “Me and Mr. Jones” and danced to old-school R&B jams played by the famed DJ D-Nice.

“It was perfect,” Butterfield says of the simple, elegant affair. “We have fabulous careers and all that, but at the end of the day, our wedding reflected Dahntay and V. I wouldn’t change a thing.” - Lashawnda K. Becoats

♥ With Love From Italy…

They met at NC State and began dating during their senior year. Just after they began dating she took off for a semester abroad in Italy, and it was then that they really fell in love; writing each other sweet emails, sending pictures and letters from across the ocean.
They went to Disney World to celebrate a late Valentine’s Day/early third anniversary. She had a hunch that this would be the perfect time to propose but she wasn’t going to be upset if she was wrong. They went to Epcot and walked around World Showcase pretty quickly, and as they were walking through the Italy pavilion, he said “we need to come back here later when it gets dark.” She thought, aha! So after dinner they walked back to Italy and he proposed by the water.

This was a special wedding because Lydia designed our website, it wasn’t long before she became a fan and asked us to capture her story. We knew that there would be tons of great details at this wedding; one of our favorites was the custom bouquets and boutonnieres made from felt and buttons, which were carried out on the cake as well. Lydia wanted a very eclectic, artsy feel, and we think she definitely achieved it! Our team did a great job capturing this beautiful story! ♥ Teachers fall in love…

They are both teachers at the same school and met while teaching. It was Christmastime and they had just finished decorating the tree, they turned down the lights to enjoy their work. Her favorite Christmas song was playing, James Taylor’s Have Yourself a Merry Christmas, and they started to dance in the living room beside the lights of the tree. He then pointed out that there was something on the the tree and it was her ring!

ELEVATE is a Raleigh-based performance and production company that provides talent and entertainment for social, corporate, and special events as well as choreography and classes to dance teams and individuals. We only work with trained and experienced dancers that can provide innovative performances. Owners, Amy Bates and Valerie Curran, have over 15 years experience in performing, choreographing and directing.

We had the privilege of meeting Amy and Valerie, owners of Elevate, this past year. We quickly became friends and talked all things dance; being a former dancer myself, we had a lot in common and a lot to talk about! This whole thing came about at a meeting back in April. I sat next to Amy and we got to chatting and she said she wanted a documentary of the making of a dance performance. As she was talking and pitching the idea to me, I was nodding yes, but at the same time I kind of immediately went off into an inspirational daydream…I was picturing the entire thing, the way I wanted to shoot it, the exact shots I wanted, how I was going to lay it out, the settings I wanted, the lighting, etc. I came back to the conversation and simply said, “done, let’s do this” I didn’t need much convincing, I got every word she said and immediately saw it in my head. This was kind of my whole venture and of course Chris came along for the ride, (I couldn’t have done it without him)! I will go into more detail when the Feature Length Documentary releases in January! For now enjoy the Trailer!

We had a blast at last years shoot and wanted to take it to the next level this year by showing how much goes into a fashion shoot, how crazy it is, and just how much hard work this is for everybody!
